چکیده

Urban planning and management need long-term population level studies for evaluating how urbanization influences biodiversity. Firstly, we reviewed the current trends of House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) Eurasian Tree montanus) in Europe, evaluated usefulness citizens’ science projects to monitor these species Finland. Secondly, conducted a (1991–2020) winter field study 31 urban settlements along 950 km north–south extent Finland latitude, weather influence on sparrow’s growth rates. The is declining 15 countries, increasing 5, whereas 12 9 European countries. trend was significantly negative continental Europe. However, not significant. Both have declined simultaneously six four their are opposite. Citizen-based, (2006–2020) season project data indicated that has decreased, increased short-term (2013–2020) breeding citizen-based did indicate significant changes occupation rate sparrows. Our wintering populations Sparrows both expanded range size. Based our count data, latitude rates When human within plot, vice versa. There also decreasing number feeding sites decreased numbers. Urban-related factors Sparrow. results colonization new, even closely related does negatively earlier urbanized species. Contrasting migratory responses of two closely related seabirds to long-term climate change

Many marine predators migrate between breeding and non-breeding areas to target resources that are seasonal but spatio-temporally predictable, and so are vulnerable to climateinduced changes in prey phenology and abundance. In the Southern Ocean, small petrels are major consumers, but perturbations in the ecosystem through ocean warming are altering foodweb structure and have been linked to pol...

Differential responses of two Iranian rice cultivars to arsenite toxicity

Arsenic (As) is a toxic metalloid which is usually found in rice fields as a contamination and has negative effects on the plant growth and reduces the crop yield. Similar to heavy metals, the deleterious effects of As may be due to, at least in part, the amount of absorbed As and disturbance of the plant water status. I...

Comparative Population Dynamics of Two Closely Related Species Differing in Ploidy Level

BACKGROUND Many studies compare the population dynamics of single species within multiple habitat types, while much less is known about the differences in population dynamics in closely related species in the same habitat. Additionally, comparisons of the effect of habitat types and species are largely missing. METHODOLOGY AND PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We estimated the importance of the habitat type...
